Amon Goeth
Another evil man that contributed to the Holocaust is Amon Goeth. Amon Goeth was born in Vienna in the Austro-Hungarian Empire in a family involved in the printing industry. By the age of 22 he became a member of the Austrian Nazi Party. In August of 1942 Goeth left Vienna to join the SS and Police Leader of Kraków. He was appointed a regular SS officer of concentration camps. On February 11, 1943 he was assigned to build a force labour camp at Plaszów it took on month to build and on March 13, 1943 the Jewish Ghettos were emptied and the Jews were forced to go to Plaszów. Goeth made living conditions in the camp amazingly dreadful it was a miracle if a prisoner could make it through four weeks and still be alive. Collective punishment, torture, and death were daily occurrences in Plaszów. Because of these “daily occurrences” Amon Goeth earned the nickname “the Nazi Butcher.” An example of how he earned this nickname would be because of an event that happened on a Jewish holiday called Yom Kippur in 1943, were Goeth and some of his SS men took 50 Jews out of there barracks and shot them. This was a rare occurrence because usually Goeth would hang the prisoners publicly and 15,000 prisoners had to watch friends and/ or family be hanged. It was said that Goeth would like to start off his mornings by taking his high powered scoped rifle and shoot the kids that were playing in the camp. One other act of cruelty was when on rare occasions he would send his dog on a prisoner; the dog would literally tear the person apart but just to be safe Goeth would shoot the body in case the prisoner was still alive. On September 13, 1944 he was relieved of his duty at Plaszów and was then sent to the SS Office of Economics and Administration, but was then arrested by the Gestapo for theft of Jewish Property (the property belonged to the Reich), the charges were dismissed. He was then assigned to an outpost in Bad Tölz, Germany. While there he was checked by SS doctors and was confirmed to suffering from mental illness and was diabetic so the doctors sent Goeth to a sanitarium. While attending the sanitarium he was arrested by Americans in May 1945. The Americans then gave Goeth to Poland to trialed for murdering tens of thousand of people the Polish found Goeth guilty and sentenced him to be hanged. On September 13, 1946 on the day of his execution he was to be executed in a place not to far from the concentration camp that he made and owned.
